What is the American dream?

The American dream is the ideal of someone who is looking for freedom and liberty, someone that wants to success in life, someone that is convinced that will achieve his/her goal. In The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, its no longer the hard work that leads to richness or a vision of building a life,it is just about being a millionaire or getting rich.

The American dream could be that people in America expect to have a chance at financial success regardless of individual differences. It is supposed to stand for independence and the ability to make something with hard work, but it ends up being about materials and pleasure, and in TGG, no amount of hard work could change where Gatsby was from.

In my opinion, people could think like that and live differently no matter what, but never forget where you came from, be humble, and never forget your past.
